I'm so sorry, Izzy. That sounds heartbreaking. Hibernation is good for us. Just like the bear, when she is ready to come out of her cave, she is hungry and ready to take on the world again. The solstice is bringing the light. We should celebrate our birthdays together--mine is the 21st.

Welcome back my new friend!! What a beautiful post. My birthday too is January (24th) and my best friend is winter. A few days after my last birthday (which was my 40th) I found my birth mother (after 20 years of searching). She passed away seven months later and these past few months have been heart breaking. It's a grief I've never known and I too have been hibernating in my shell trying desperately to heal. I'm hoping this winter solstice that the changes blowing my way with the winter winds are love and healing.

i can't believe the synchronicity of this post with my thoughts earlier today -- i've always known the horse was my totem animal but this morning i thought (as i looked at my polar bear mug of eggnog latte) that maybe bear was also -- and of course i learned a lot about snake and the divine feminine (st patrick driving the snakes out of ireland -- the patriarchal church driving out the female spirit associated with pagan traditions? or some such?) in my goddess dancing days...cool post about another blessed trinity...
